Avnet has taken the wraps off a social media tool designed to help resellers keep their customers informed about the main developments in the vendor community.

The distributor's socialondemand from purechannelapps enables messages from vendors to be disseminated to customers via social media messages from partners.

The messages are designed to be presented to end users as if they were from the reseller and since the service launched last month more than 75 partners have signed up.

"Using the tool, we are able to provide our business partners with a valuable source of content which they often find a challenge to create themselves," said Bruce Hockin, head of solutions strategy, Avnet Technology Solutions.

"By giving them a regular stream of targeted content which they can post as their own, we will help them build their social presence and positively influence the end-user decision making process," he added.

The experiences of the distributor so far indicate that tweets sent out are getting healthy levels of clicks and and downloads.
