Business application and services provider Advanced Business Solutions (Advanced) is moving into the competitive hardware market with the launch of a solution set that will couple a new mobile BI package with handsets, tablet devices and airtime contracts.
Recent Gartner figures revealed that although mobile BI tools have not yet seen widespread acceptance, 13% of a 1,364-strong sample were piloting the technology, and 33% had plans to deploy mobile BI within the next 12 months.
Parent ACS Group already pairs its public sector-centric patient and domicilary workforce solutions iNurse and iConnect with mobile hardware and contacts. Earlier in April it launched a new mobile comms unit earlier in April to capitalise on growing private sector demand for a one-stop-shop mobility offering.
Dean Dickinson, managing director of public sector and enterprise, said Advanced's plan was to cater for mobile software demand among its existing customers, who are already users of IBM Cognos, SAP BusinessObjects and Qlikview.
"We've been providing solutions for 14 to 15 years around the IBM and SAP stacks, and as a business we have over 7,000 customers who we've built relationships with over a long period of time," he said. "It makes sense to leverage our capabilities and the contracts we've build up with airtime providers."
The firm claims the launch now makes it the only UK software provider able to provide mobile apps, devices and airtime together, a capability that competitors such as Capita, Dickinson suggested, do not yet have.
