Computer 2000 has outlined its ambitions to become a major player in the public sector just weeks after it brought in Cathi Low to run its operations in that market.

Speaking at the distributor's vendor partner summit Peter Hubbard, UK and Ireland managing director, said that it saw opportunities in local government, health and education and would be doing more to become the desired supplier for resellers selling into that vertical.

Hubbard said the timing was right because of the increasing moves towards smaller contracts designed to attract SME suppliers to pitch into the public sector.

"We are building a public sector practice of excellence helping resellers with bids and tenders and marketing campaigns as well as providing bundles for specific markets," he said.

"This will be a huge piece of business going forward...we want to be the public sector go-to distributor in the UK," he added.
