SAP is set to make a major announcement next month as it outlines ambitions to become a major player in the database market.

The vendor has set 10 April as the date it plans to reveal its strategy in a move that many are seeing as one that will heighten the competition between the German vendor and rival Oracle.

"SAP will unveil its unified data management portfolio and demonstrate how we will become a leading database vendor," the vendor stated.

Just the prospect of an announcement that could take it into a head-on collision with Oracle has already garnered headlines throughout the tech community and the two vendors have clashed before, most notably in court over the code that SAP's TomorrowNow division illegally downloaded from its rival.
