Cloud platform specialist ThinkGrid has taken steps to increase the practical support resellers looking to move into hosted services are able to get access to with the launch of its own university training scheme.
The ThinkGrid university does not just provide technical training around the cloud and associated products but also gives resellers practical help about changing financial models.
There is an increasing awareness in the channel that resellers need more assistance moving to the cloud as they shift their staff compensation models to monthly-based payments and deliver a different kind of service to customers.
Rob Lovell, CEO of ThinkGrid, said that resellers were central to making a cloud strategy work for a vendor but it was naive to think that a switch could be made without any upheaval.
"We're now seeing a real tipping point where our partners are finding that their traditional capex-led business model is not sufficiently geared for opex-based revenues from cloud computing," he said.
"Moreover, with cloud it's no longer about making a one-off sales of a desktop infrastructure but about generating recurring revenue from hosted virtual desktop and other services," he added.
The vendor's university is open to all of its existing partners and will provide online resources that resellers can get access to to improve their cloud skills.
In recent weeks Ingram Micro has been providing similar support through the Channel Transformation Alliance, of which ThinkGrid is a member, trying to improve the skills in the channel.
