Software Asset Management (SAM) and compliance specialist FAST Ltd has opened up a number of its courses to non-customers in an attempt to boost awareness of SAM standards and best practice frameworks across the public and private sectors.

The move comes hot on the heels of FAST securing Continued Professional Development (CPD) certification on some of its courses.
Citing a recent Gartner report that advised software managers to improve their understanding of standards and frameworks, the organisation suggested that making its courses more accessible would help individuals optimise their own assets, minimise their risk and save costs, possibly boosting their worth to an organisation as the economic situation worsens.
FAST Ltd operations director Paul Clements said: "We see IT professionals appreciate the skills of adopting a planned and structured approach time and time again. Gartner's research demonstrates how important it is for SAM managers to understand the value that implementing best practice frameworks offers."
Among the seminars being opened up are courses introducing users to SAM, as well as sessions on Microsoft licensing, the Data Protection Act and virtualisation.
Last week VAR Trustmarque beefed up its SAM capabilities with the appointment of former Bytes and Computacenter software licensing specialist Andréa Perrot, who has been tasked with addressing the firm's activities at the enterprise end of the software market.
