SAP has raised the bar in the length of time customers can expect standard maintenance around its ERP suite applications extending it to five years to reduce the concerns about upgrades.
The service cover on SAP ERP 6.0 will now run until 2020 and it will be extended to the NetWeaver platform and the enhancement packages for the vendor's business suite.
The vendor said the move was designed to give customers predictability and remove the burden of upgrades from the customer's shoulders for several years and was part of it's strategy of delivering what it dubs as 'evolutionary innovation' every quarter to its products without causing customer disruption. Customers will be given some flexibility around the upgrades with the choice to take what suits them.
"Our innovation strategy and the resulting maintenance timelines will give customers predictability of their SAP projects and accelerate the adoption of new innovations from SAP," said Jim Hagemann Snabe, co-CEO, SAP "This helps them to become more productive, free up resources and run their businesses even better."
