Civica has extended its expertise in data management, particularly in the public sector, with the acquisition of Bristol-based IT mapping specialist Innogistic.

The market for data management that has the ability to map IT systems and usage is on the rise becoming increasingly popular with the Police, fire service, local government and utility companies.

Innogistic already has relationships with many of those types of customers and will now be part of a wider solution offered by Civica as part of the cost savings that can be delivered through the better use of technology.

Simon Downing, Civica chief executive, said the customer base of Innogistic was complementary to its own and the tie-up would strengthen its market position as it continued to develop its software "while extending the scope and scale of related managed and outsourced services".

Dave Roberts, managing director of Innogistic, said that the deal was positive for its staff and customers: "It provides a stronger business with a broad capability to respond to the needs of public and private organisations as they face increasing financial and management pressures, while retaining the flexibility that customers have come to expect."
