Resellers could be missing a trick not talking to customers keen to build data centres about the physical infrastructure needs such a project involves leaving the cabling, casing and build for others to take advantage of.

Speaking to MiroScope as it finalises a data centre showroom  in the City of London for resellers to use as a showcase to clients Steve Luczkiw, vice president strategic partners, global at Panduit, said that the focus was often on what datacentres could deliver, particularly cloud, but often did not include much discussion of the choices made around the foundations of the hardware environment.

Quoting IDC research Luczkiw said that the cabling infrastructure in a data centre was expected to last longer than any other element, at between 10 to 15 years, but did not get the attention it deserved.

But with more solutions now being put together including both the hardware, software and services he said more channel partners were starting to identify the opportunity: "A lot of IT integrators sub contract to someone else but it helps them control the process with the clien t if they do it themselves and we are starting to see more of them doing that."
