The seating plan in the Lenovo board room will need to be revised after the manufacturer shuffled its management pack.

The PC maker has appointed founder and CEO of Quantum Leaps Corporation and a former chairman of Sony Nobuyuki Idei to become an independent non-executive director.

He replaces James Coulter , co-founder of TDG Capital, who has stepped down from the role.

Coulter said there was no disagreement with the board. TDG Capital sold the last shares it held in Lenovo last year. His firm had been one of the major backers when the split from IBM took place back in 2005.

Idei is expected to bring specific knowledge of the Japanese market that will help the Chinese vendor make more in-roads into that geography.

Liu Chuanzhi, chairman of Lenovo Group, said that the appointment had been made to help it achieve its strategic ambitions.
