Microsoft has announced a review of its OEM channel relationships globally as it looks to work out whether or not it wants to reduce, expand or keep its current UK distribution line-up.

The process started with the OEMs being told of a Request for Proposal (RFP) process that will kick-off at some point soon a beauty parade where Microsoft can establish if its current channel is meeting its needs.

An exact timetable has not yet been revealed, with Microsoft pointing out that the RFP process has only just started and there are several steps to go through before the review will be completed.

"Request For Proposal is a tool that can be used to solicit and review a deep set of information from distributors (current and potential) about their business that will allow Microsoft to assess the distribution ecosystem in a given country or Area, and select distributors whose strategies and capabilities most closely align with those of Microsoft today and in the future," is how this particular exercise is being defined.
