IT security vendor Sophos is seeking to recruit more VARs in the UK to provide additional services around its products and for resellers that use its solutions as part of a managed IT service to small businesses.

The company, which is keen to stress its 100% channel focus, said the recruitment exercise would support its "ambitious growth plans". Sophos said its above market average growth levels were down to its exceptionally close and stable relationships with partners.

Sophos UK and Ireland director of channel, James Vyvyan, confirmed the plans to expand the vendor's partner network, adding it was inviting resellers to 'switch to Sophos'. The company's philosophy was that if it works well for partners, they will work well for Sophos.

"We believe that this approach is firmly behind our popularity with channel partners," Vyvyan claimed, "and have seen some real successes with partners switching exclusively to Sophos."

Jonathan Appleton, managing director at Sophos partner Somerbys IT, said it was almost the only security vendor it dealt with. The key differentiator was that it "doesn't compete with us directly and therefore doesn't impinge on our margin or our relationship with customers - this is certainly not true of other security vendors".
