The patents cover technologies that prove the transmission, receipt and reply to emails as well as the verification of the delivery and integrity of electronic messages. They also include methods for authenticating the dispatch and contents of documents.
The suit, filed in the District Court for the Eastern District of Texas Marshall Division, is seeking a permanent injunction against Adobe and Echosign from infringing the patents, as well as damages, costs, expenses, prejudgement and post-judgement interest.
RPost is already involved in legal action against a number of other businesses, including Docusign and the Swiss Post Office. The action against Docusign, which alleges the infringement of four patents, was filed on 7 July in the US Federal Court (Texas Eastern District).
