VIP has announced that following increasing demand from customers it has moved into selling Apple products for the first time in its history.

The distributor, with a reputation in the components space, has been fielding increasing amounts of requests for Apple products including desktops, tablets and iPods and has taken the decision to meet that demand.

But the distie is being up-front with resellers in sounding the warning that margins on the Apple products are much lower than traditional PCs.

"Historically, VIP has focused primarily on PC related components, however our systems business has grown exponentially with core resellers asking us to broaden our offering to include the Apple products," said Dave Stevinson, VIP's sales director.

"By being able to offer resellers ASUS, MSI and Apple systems, tablets and peripherals, VIP is in a much stronger position," he added.

As a result of the decision to take the Apple lines the distributor is setting up an Apple Business Unit and is looking to recruit a business manager to oversee sales of the range.
