Storage vendor Tandberg Data has acquired the removable disk storage (RDX) business of ProStor Systems for an undisclosed sum.

ProStor was first to develop and market RDX technology, and Tandberg Data has been acting as an OEM under the brand name RDX QuikStor since 2006.

The sale of the business means ProStor will now concentrate on development, marketing and sales of its InfiniVault archive solutions lines, licensing RDX technology back from Tandberg Data.

Tandberg Data CEO Pat Clarke said the acquisition further solidified the firm's position in the data protection market.

"In the past year we have expanded our product portfolio with new data protection products and appliances. With the ownership of the RDX technology we will be able to strengthen relationships with customers, partners and RDX licencees," he said.

Clarke pledged to work closely with other RDX licence holders, which include Dell, HP, Imation and Lenovo, on both development and marketing.
