Infrastructure software management vendor Egenera has appointed application availability specialist distributor CDG to sell its PAN Manager data centre management software package in the UK and Ireland.

The PAN Manager suite is designed to simplify IT operations and infrastructure and drive down costs through integrating I/O virtualisation, converged networking, automated storage connectivity and software provisioning to transform standard server and Ethernet infrastructure into a pooled resource.

The vendor, which is currently on an EMEA expansion drive, claims it has significant performance, platform independence and cost advantages over competing converged infrastructure solutions such as Cisco UCS.

CDG non executive director Peter Thomas told MicroScope that having created a stable of vendors, including RES Software for workspace management, Pano Logic for VDI virtualisation and Expand and Silver Peak for WAN acceleration, the distie had decided it made sense to add data centre management software to the picture.

"PAN Manager is big in mission critical environments, such as financial services, and there's a sweet spot in SAP and Oracle environments, so we will be targeting those channels too," said Thomas.

Thomas said CDG would also be looking to make sales into hosted services providers that were looking to add more data centre operational tools.
