HP Networking has announced an EMEA trade-in programme on end-of-life Cisco Catalyst and Nexus switching gear, WLAN controllers and routers.

It estimates that there could be $9bn (£5.4bn) worth of Cisco networking equipment approaching the end of its useful life this year, and is pushing its Enterprise Authorised Resellers to exploit the imminent refresh cycle for their own benefit.

The 'Catalyst for Change' programme - which was launched in the US last December - will deliver upfront savings with an additional 20% off list price on HP A- and E-Series switches, wireless or routing kit, and S-Series security products. The programme also includes financing and leasing options.

The vendor claims its own solutions can deliver up to 66% lower TCO when compared to comparable Cisco lines and branded its rivals product as "complex, proprietary and expensive".

"Under the single vendor stronghold of the past, enterprise networks have often become too complex, difficult to manage and expensive," said HP Networking EMEA director of enterprise sales, Chris Huggett.
