Business intelligence has become slicker and cheaper but is going to have to become easier to use if its going to deliver on user demands in the next stage of its development.

According to predictions of what lies ahead in the technology world by Accenture BI is going to become more analytical and has to provide an improved user experience.

Application design will be a multidisciplinary exercise: Typically handled today by IT architects and business owners, tomorrow it will involve optimisation from the perspective of the process actor, with the emphasis on simplicity and on removing inefficiencies," stated the Accenture Technology Vision.

In addition it claimed that cloud computing would get past the point where customers were just looking just for money savings to where they started to grasp the wider benefits of software as a service.

One of the other highlights of the report was a prediction that in an effort to offer as much flexibility as staff required but with the right levels of protection more security would become automated.

"Automation will quickly become a 'must-have' component in the overall security strategy of every IT organisation," the report stated.
