Hewlett-Packard and Microsoft have launched a series of appliances cementing the first year of a development partnership that should benefit both vendor's channel partners.
The vendors formed an infrastructure to application partnership last year to run over an initial three years, which so far has seen $250m ploughed into developing products.
The fruits of that spending and effort is four appliances, delivering business intelligence and data warehousing, that are aimed predominately at the midmarket customer base.
The HP Business Decision appliance is shipping along with the Enterprise Data Warehouse Appliance and the E5000 messaging system for Microsoft Exchange Server will be available from March.
Paul Kember, head of the HP server business in UK and Ireland, said that the products would be made available to its channel partners and it was currently offering an extensive training programme.
He added that the relationship with Microsoft was not "a one-off initiative" and there was real commitment to developing more products and providing the channel with long-term support around them.
In response Anthony Saxsby, practice manager at Microsoft, said the idea was to take cost and complexity out of business intelligence and carve out a sales opportunity for its reseller base: "Areas like BI are seeing a significant uptake as people are wanting to use it in their business."
