WLAN architecture specialist Aerohive has handed over an undisclosed sum for privately-held cloud-based networking firm Pareto Networks, which released the world's first cloud-based routing and VPN solution last year.

It plans to integrate Pareto's technology into its own HiveOS operating system and HiveManager Online, its cloud services package, with new features and platforms coming on-stream by the mid-point of the year.

Aerohive CEO David Flynn said the acquisition would speed Aerohive's own entry into the cloud-based networking space.

"Pareto was first to market with a cloud-based router solution, designed to eliminate ... cost and complexity," said Flynn.

"Adding this technology to Aerohive's existing expertise in cloud-based wi-fi network management will enable [us] to reduce the complexity and operating cost of mid-sized enterprises, branch and micro-branch networks in the same way it has for enterprise wi-fi," he added.
