There is no doubt that the cloud is here and increasing its foothold in the channel but there continues to be some debate around whether or not the barriers to adoption have been overcome.
In the last week there have been some claims that one of the largest worries to customers, around security, has been dealt with and quality of service concerns are also diminishing.
But in research from CA Technologies the size of the challenge for resellers at the chalk face selling cloud has been laid bare.
The vendor quizzed users and found 68% of those in large enterprises are still worried about security and 40% have qualms about quality of service.
Added to those technical issues are the human fears of loss of job or control among the IT director community.
Despite that there is a clear trend towards the cloud with the vast majority of customers identifying the benefits of reduced costs and greater flexibility.
Adam Famularo, general manager, cloud computing business at CA Technologies, said the findings highlighted a trend that it had already been trumpeting.
"IT executives are rapidly becoming orchestrators of an IT supply chain made up of internal and external services," he said.
"With this shift comes a growing need for sophisticated management and security, allowing enterprises to change how they think about IT to reap the full rewards that cloud computing offers - agility, efficiency and scalability," he added.
