The Lexmark Value Print initiative was launched to copier dealers around two years ago to build A4 desktop and workgroup devices in that channel and it has gradually grown to include close to 60 partners.
"We are extending that to the IT reseller to sell print on a click per copy basis or as part of a managed print deal," said Lexmark UK and Ireland channel boss Paul Callow.
The traditional market for printer hardware fell steeply in the recession as customers looked for ways to cut the cap-ex buget and a managed services captured the attention of a growing number of corporate firms.
Callow reckoned resellers need to seriously consider making adjustments to thier business model and sales approach if they want to maintain a print business.
LVP Light - the working title - will allow resellers to enter hardware, supplies and warranty pricing via a web portal and create a click per copy model, with the service element delivered by Lexmark if required.
"Clearly many IT resellers do not have their own services organisation," said Callow, "this is a tight and straightforward programme".
The scheme will be ready to launch by the end of the first quarter.
