The CEO of security player Clearswift has described the current economic conditions as trading in a "headwind" but indicated it is managing to sell more of its gateway products.

For its Q2, ended September, the private vendor said it manage to grow the web and email gateway product sales as well as keeping its renewals in a healthy state.

Richard Turner, chief executive said that it had been offering managing services subscriptions which had also helped it keep the renewals ticking over.

"Despite the economic headwind we delivered a very strong performance in both the last quarter and first half of the fiscal year," he said.

Without access to the actual numbers it is hard to judge but Tuner added that it had managed to trim operating expenses and delivered positive EBITDA operating results.

The vendor used its trading update as an opportunity to announce the appointment of Bob Pritchard to vice president of the Americas and former Meru Networks staffer Phil Vasic as sales director, Asia Pacific.
