Epson has wrapped up a settlement with Ebuyer over the sale of ink cartridges that it is claiming infringe its patents with the vendor now targeting the manufacturer.

Ebuyer had been selling Inkrite cartridges supplied by Medea International but in face of Epson's assertion that the product infringes its patents the online retailer has agreed to stop selling the products and paid an undisclosed sum to the vendor.

The battle between Epson and Medea over patent infringement is ongoing with a trial set to start in October.

Matthew Drew, group product manager at Epson said that it put money into developing its ink products and wanted to ensure that the customer was getting the best experience out of its kit.

"We will continue to take a proactive stance against such infringements on our technologies in order to protect our brand and intellectual property, as well as our customers and authorised channel partners."

The legal battle with Medea has been running for almost four and a half years after Epson kicked off moves to highoiught patent infringements back in 2006 and set its sights on preventing the Scotland-based firm from supplying more products to the UK market.
