According to research from the IT Job Board tech workers in both the UK fail to take their holiday entitlement.
A third of British IT staff fail to take their entitlement ending the year with two or three days that they haven't enjoyed away from the office.
Apart from the obvious commitment that IT staff had to their jobs some revealed that the stress of having to tie up all the loose ends before they headed off to the beach were too stressful.
Alex Farrell, managing director of the IT Job Board, said that clearly staff were dedicated but it was also a concern that so many missed out on taking a break from the daily grind.
"Holidays are a necessary part of our lives, and taking a breather from an intensive work environment is a must. We all need to re-charge our batteries and retain that all-important work/life balance," he said.
There has already been research out this year that indicates most of the channel head away with a laptop or smart phone with the intention of working on holiday and Farrell echoed that experience.
"As with other sectors, IT is proving to be hugely competitive, and - unsurprisingly - many workers are opting to take their mobile phones on holiday with them. Large numbers are also finding it difficult to leave their work worries behind," he added.
