Speaking to MicroScope, Gass said: "It doesn't cover the UK and there is no agreement with Avaya at present."
Signed yesterday, the accord initially covers Azlan's German, Austrian and Swiss operations, which Avaya EMEA distribution director Thomas Veit said was necessary to support its growing channel as the vendor refocuses its business on resellers.
"It's critical that we provide our partners with access to our solutions in the most effective and cost-efficient manner and we believe Azlan will help Avaya to meet partner needs," he said.
Twelve months ago, Avaya made sweeping changes to its UK distribution channel, appointing Rocom and opening its midmarket portfolio to Nimans and MTV in a perceived response to Westcon's acquisitive ways after it bought Crane in 2007.
The subsequent acquisition of Rocom by Nimans in March could have consolidated Avaya's reseller base further, so there is every possibility the vendor could look to address this in the UK.
EuroLAN managing consultant Keith Humphreys said Avaya's distribution expansion "makes sense".
However it is also possible that Avaya's close relationship with Westcon has precluded any chance of the vendor striking an agreement with Azlan on these shores.
Avaya was unavailable for further comment at the time of going to press.
