BT Wholesale has launched its IP Exchange platform on a worldwide basis, the first time it has released a service designed specifically for the global comms market.

The platform enables communications providers to connect VoIP to VoIP and VoIP to traditional voice calls, and is already being used by over 100 fixed line and mobile operators in the UK, claims BT.
The system also provides video and data traffic across various standards and configurations, and BT said it was developing a range of value-added services to accompany the platform. It has already introduced a pre-pay facility so that operators are not forced to pay an upfront deposit to use the service.
BT Wholesale product managing director Cameron Rejali said the service was designed to simplify the complex process of achieving IP interoperability, "leaving customers free to concentrate on meeting the needs of their end customers."
"This approach enables our customers to quickly implement end-to-end IP interconnectivity at scale with minimum upfront investment," he added.
