HP appoints Microsoft veteran to head enterprise software

Hewlett-Packard has strengthened its software credentials with the hiring of one of the former Microsoft executives responsible for helping Windows 7 emerge from the ashes of Vista. Bill Veghte (pictured) spent the best part of two decades at Microsoft and has joined HP as head of enterprise software business joining on 17 May.

Veghte left Microsoft in January and had been involved with Windows 7, which has just gone past the 100m units sold mark and become one of the most successful OS systems for his former employer.

"Expanding our software and solutions business is critical to HP, and Bill's broad experience across sales, marketing and engineering will be instrumental in driving the business forward," said Ann Livermore, executive vice president of HP's enterprise business.
