Ingram Micro EMEA has launched a new telecoms distribution unit as it seeks to grab share in the expanding mobility market.
The broadliner plans to offer comms distribution services to resellers, retailers, mobile network operators and MVNOs, and will be looking to take on board additional vendor partners specialising in netbooks and smartphones.
"As mobile PCs and smartphone capabilities are converging, the value of supply aggregation through distribution is becoming more relevant," said Ingram EMEA president Alain Maquet.
Maquet claimed the distributor was "ideally positioned" to build a "unique proposition" in the telecoms space, where it will be facing down competition from a multitude of established players and specialists.
The unit will be headed up by former Ingram Micro France deputy MD and commercial director Pierre-Yvon Mechali, who is currently in charge of Paris-based handset distie 2020 Mobile. Mechali will report to Ingram Micro senior vice president of vendor management and business development for EMEA, Vincenzo Baggio.
