A draft report covering what steps will need to be taken to help UK companies compete in the next decade was published this morning with a recognition that broadband outside major cities has to be faster and personal data needs to be better protected.

The Professional and Business Services: A 2020 Vision for Growth report will be debated by Ministers and business leaders and other main proposals include getting the government to take a more active role in promoting services offered by UK companies across Europe.

Trade, Investment and Small Business Minister Lord Davies said that it wanted to make sure the SME sector thrived and that was the reason for the consultation with various business groups.

"The sector is a real asset to the UK as we transform to a more networked and smarter low carbon economy, and it also has considerable future export potential," he said.
