Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu, the open source operating system has launched itself into the channel with its Ubuntu Advantage (UA) partner programme, designed to help resellers bring a new set of support services for Ubuntu installations direct to businesses, writes Linda Endersby.

"Canonical is seeing rapid growth in global demand for Ubuntu Advantage in enterprise environments for desktop, server and cloud deployments," said Paul Holt, VP of Corporate Services at Canonical.
UA provides enterprise customers with access to the tools and support they need to get maximum return from their Ubuntu infrastructure. Tools include Ubuntu Landscape management and monitoring tool, and knowledge base, while services include round the clock support and legal cover.
Resellers can also choose to add additional services such as hardware, software, implementation and training services to expand their portfolio for the customer and will receive the usual perks of marketing, technical, commercial and presales support.
Holt continued: "Bringing local partners on board will both help satisfy that demand and bring services to regions where it was previously unavailable. There's a real opportunity for partners to reach new users and grow their business."
Wordwide partners include CSS in the US, Asia and EMEA, Ashisuto in Japan, RedPill Linpro in Scandinavia and Alterway in France, aiming to add local resources and responsiveness to the expertise that Canonical continues to provide,
