Computer 2000 has doubled the responsibilities of software general manager James Reed to also include the PC business unit, ending the four month search for a permanent successor to Mark Glasspool.

In that time, Andy Dow, group marketing director at the Basingstoke-based distributor babysat the desktop and notebook division, though C2000 came close to getting ASUS sales director Phil Brown on board, but he opted for Micro P instead.

Dow - who now resorts to his main duties - said the dual role appointment was neither related to keeping costs down nor the tight fit between software and hardware.

"It was the right place, right time," he told MicroScope.

He added the experience gained in working with software vendors and building a sale team "make [Reed] an ideal candidate and deserving of an additional challenge".

C2000 distributes HP, Acer, Samsung, Toshiba, Apple, Fujitsu Technology Solutions, Gateway/Packard Bell, ASUS and Sony, in fact it was almost certainly easier to list the PC companies it does not work with.
