CU swaps group sales director Brett for Chatterton

London-based Computers Unlimited (CU) is to appoint Mark Chatterton as group sales and marketing director this week to replace group sales director Alistair Brett who has left the company.

Industry veteran Chatterton spent the last year as category director at public sector and corporate stationer Office2Office, having left Northamber in late 2009. Prior to joining the distributor he held various senior positions at DSGi, now Dixons Retail.

"I am coming back to the [IT] fold," he confirmed to MicroScope, with a start date set for 20 January.

The core of CU's business pertains to Apple and related accessories but the Digital Home division also posted healthy growth during the last full financial year ended 30 April 2010, with sales up 3% to £98m and operating profits up 54% to £954,000.

The Apple distribution business and the Digital Home Division accounted for 50% of £10.4m gross profit in fiscal 2010, up from 32% a year earlier.

Channel insiders reckoned that CU wanted to bring on board Chatterton because of the joint sales and marketing experience gained during his time in the industry.

Brett, who was appointed director at CU on 4 January 2010, confirmed that he had left the business but refused to comment further.
