ANS Group has forked out £4.85m to acquire fellow London and Manchester-based data storage and netork solution specialist Alpha Business Computers.

The deal, funded by ANS' cash reserves, will see Alpha sales director Simon Birney and technincal director Howard Johnson transfer to the new owners along with all 40 staff.

"Today marks the begining of an exciting new era for the company," said ANS Group chairman and founder Scott Fletcher, who added the combined scale of the businesses would benefit customers.

NetApp Star Partner Alpha, which was set up 28 years ago, is on course to hit a run rate turnover of approximately £15m and an operating profit of £500,000 in the year to 31 December 2010, the firms said.

This will take the combined sales operations to circa £35m with a workforce in the region of 100.

ANS will become the only reseller in the UK with top tier NetApp and Cisco (Gold) accreditations.
