Cisco has recruited HP's former UK and Ireland channel boss Dave Poskett to manage its relationship with IBM.

After twenty five years at HP, Poskett left in January following a restructure that saw channel management teams folded back into their respective business units.

The overhaul left the solutions partner organisation (SPO) handling reseller rebates and marketing funds but with no direct influence over strategy.

Poskett decided to leave the business rather than take alternative roles on offer, which included channel sales director for the personal systems group.

It is almost certain that Poskett would have signed a non-compete agreement - even though CEO Mark Hurd did not when he left - which prohibited him working in the industry for six months.

However it is note worthy that Cisco chose not to, in the first instance at least, use his experiences of managing channels as it expands the partner base to sell its datacentre kit.

Cisco refused to comment on the appointment but Poskett indirectly confirmed it via the voicemail on his desk phone.
