After more than eight years at the storage linchpin, Willem Hendrickx stepped down from his role a couple of months ago to take a break but is due to start at the SI on 9 August as executive vice president.
"The IT market is still tough but the services is where the major growth will be, businesses don't want to buy product...we want to expand as fast as we can" he told MicroScope.
The operation which employs 17,000 people across Europe with a relatively small presence in the UK that sells to the financial services sector.
Hendrickx will manage the global telco and media business but will also have responsibility for the UK, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands.
"Once I start I want to review the operations," he said but pointed out "we have made a lot of acquisitions in the past and from a solid financial position we are always looking to expand our footprint."
Cloud services remain the hot topic in the UK and across Europe and Tieto has up to 70 solutions under development, said Hendrickx.
