David Smith is parting company with Samsung Electronics as part of a restructure that will see the notebook division folded into the mobile phone arm and his role as director of IT made redundant, according to channel sources.

He joined the Korean behemoth in December last year replacing previous incumbent Neil Berville, and had also previously worked at Canon as marketing director and held various senior director roles at Hewlett-Packard.
Channel sources believed Smith was no longer at the firm and the general manager for the notebook and display divisions will report to UK managing director MS Kim in the interim.
"The mobile phone division has now taken control of the notebook business unit so there has been a simplification in the reporting lines and Samsung no longer needed the position that [Smith held]," said one Samsung partner.
In a statement sent to Microscope, the vendor stated, "David Smith is currently employed by Samsung Electronics UK as Director of the IT division".
Smith was unavailable to comment at the time of going to press.
