Computerlinks has inked a distribution deal with Virtual Machine in a move that marks its debut handling a vendor operating on the hardware side of the virtualistion market.

The distributor has experience on the software side with Citrix and RES Software now will get the opportunity to target more of its security resellers that are being encouraged to sell protection across both virtual and physical systems.

Virtual Machine produces a range of appliances that come with hypervisor and with some preconfigured storage and networking settings that is designed to make it a relatively easy sell for resellers.

David Caughtry, director of e-business at Computerlinks, said that increasingly security vendors were having to offer virtualised compatible products and it made sense to widen its own portfolio.

"An increasing number of our security vendors are realising that their technology needs to be delivered in a virtualised environment," he said.

Steve Barnett, a former managing director of Check Point and managing director of Virtual Machine, said that security was one of the key considerations with virtualisation and as a result it had signed a distribution partner that had a standing in that side of the market.
