According to research from SAP around 86% of companies do not have access to real time and accurate data.
Some of the explanations for that failure was because of a belief that there was too much data to handle or even that having a clear handle on information was not vital to surviving the downturn.
“A lack of clarity limits [users] ability to understand business conditions, predict risks and make informed decisions – all of which are more important than ever during this period of economic difficulty,” said Tim Noble, UK & Ireland managing director of SAP.
The vendor also quizzed users on their views of the recession with only 4% believing that it had already started to end and 39%braced for the downturn to last another year.
Resellers have been urged to warn customers about the risks they face with a recent IBM roundtable sounding out the risks of making major decisions without a full picture.
“If you haven’t planned ahead you could be out of business,” warned Clive Longbottom, service director at Quocirca who also said that far too much information was not being shared and resided on user’s C drives.
