The vendor has reacted to the current economic climate with a recognition that customers want to know exactly how long they will have to wait for their return on investment with a clear indication of their running costs.

One of the main announcements surrounded the HP financial planning and analysis product the is designed to help users get an insight into the value of IT products and services.

Robin Purohit, vice president, general manager, software products, HP software & solutions, said that CIOs couldn’t afford to signoff purchases that were not transparent.

“You can show the customer reports, guarantee formalised systems tracking planned spending,” he said.

He added that is was very confident that the ROI case could be easily proved “we have learnt a lot about what works for the customer and gone as far as possible”.

He said that despite the slowdown there was still demand from customers for software that helped improve efficiency and business intelligence could help companies improve their knowledge of their operations.

“In the long-term there is cost transformation and it’s about how IT transforms the business with a set of best practices in configuration of the management systems,” he said.
