Networking VAD Westcon is upping its choice of IP-comms and Ethernet gear after signing two major deals in the space of a week.
The distributor announced Monday that its Westcon Convergence unit is joining the Siemens Enterprise Communications (SEN) Go Forward! programme covering the UK,Nordics and other western European markets.

Westcon will get immediate access to SEN’s Enterasys networking solutions and Siemens SME comms solutions, with further kit, including IP-based UC platform OpenScape, coming online next year.
“This partnership will allow us to support our resellers with an expanded level of converged communications technologies to support rising demand for IP telephony and UC,” said Westcon Convergence European vice-president,David Grant.
Westcon has also put its mark on a worldwide contract to sell Brocade’s IP and Ethernet networking gear as part of the vendor’s Alliance Partner Network.
Brocade let slip that it was chatting up networking distributors for its newly-acquired Foundry lines earlier in the year but it was thought that the vendor was happy with its line-up after giving its SAN partner Avnet access to the portfolio over the summer.
Brocade said it would be working with Westcon to develop a “robust”training programme for resellers.
For its part, Westcon will be hoping its new partners will go some way to shoring up its top line in the coming months. Last week its parent Datatec reported on a torrid first half with Westcon sales falling 20%to £735m. The distributor accounts for around 69% of Datatec’s revenues.
