The future for hosted software is expanding beyond the traditional CRM and human resource management realms into other markets helping to drive the growth of SaaS and the potential sales opportunities for resellers.

According to analysts Forrester the next decade will see SaaS move into IT service management and web conferencing.

“SaaS applications have advanced beyond early market applications in human resources and CRM to become a game changer in the enterprise software market,” said Liz Herbert, senior analyst, Forrester Research.

“SaaS adoption continues to increase, and it is now relevant for a wide array of applications,” he added.

But as it predicted that online back-up, CRM, HR applications would continue to flourish the analysts also warned that it viewed business intelligence as a “largely unproven” market and it was skeptical about the potential for success in that area.

Forrester has produced its research, as part of its TechRadar, series to try and highlight for users areas where they should be making investments in the next few years. But clearly there are implications for resellers looking to identify opportunities.
