Networking kit maintenance and repair services provider Comtek has reported record profits for its fiscal 2009 as users sweat their investments during the downturn.

The Wales-based firm said profits rose 80% and sales rose 25% during the 12 months to the end of December. It also boosted its headcount and is implementing further expansion plans for 2010.

Comtek claimed it saw considerable uptake of the Nortel Customer Rescue service it launched last August, which offers existing Nortel users a repair service for legacy and other unsupported equipment. On the back of the Nortel programme, it also started up a telecoms third-party RMA service for customers of other vendors.

"The nature of our business model means that the more successful we are, the more financial benefits are realised by our customers, thanks to the huge savings that can be made by repairing rather than replacing communications equipment," said CEO Askar Sheibani.

He pledged further expansion for the coming year, with plans to expand the range of comms gear supported and open a dedicated telecoms repair unit.
