Tablet-style computers are expected to dominate the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show that kicks off in Las Vegas on Thursday.

About 50 of the thin, touch-screen computers, many of them running Google's open source Android operating system, are set to be introduced at this year's CES, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Electronics manufacturers are also set to introduce a new generation of web-oriented smart phones with faster processors up to 1.5GHz designed to run on 4G networks.

The number of attendees at this year's CES is expected to meet or edge past last year's tally of nearly 127,000, according to organisers.
