The White House has officially announced the members of
itsnew web team.
The announcements follow the creation of
Whitehouse.gov, which aims
to "connect the President with the rest of the world", and
Recovery.gov, which aims to
detail how the US economic rescue package will be spent.
Macon Phillips is the director of new media, a position he held
in the presidential transition team. Part of the new
administration's attempt to connect with its electorate is a new
blog.
Phillips said in his first posting, "Millions of Americans have
powered President Obama's journey to the White House, many taking
advantage of the internet to play a role in shaping our country's
future. WhiteHouse.gov is just the beginning of the new
administration's efforts to expand and deepen this online
engagement."
Phillips developed Change.gov
and oversaw the transition's overall online communications. Before
the Obama campaign, Phillips led Blue State Digital's strategy
practice, working with political clients.
His deputy is Cammie Croft, who also held the position during
the transition project. Prior to that, as the new media rapid
response manager for the Obama for America campaign, she oversaw
efforts to integrate new media and communications, including
managing websites such as FighttheSmears.com and
UndertheRadar.com.
Katie Stanton is the director of citizen participation. She
joins the team from Google where she was a principal in the new
business development team. She was responsible for OpenSocial,
Google Moderator and various election-related initiatives. She also
managed products such as Google Finance, Google News and Blog
Search.
