Smartphone users running the Symbian operating system are being
targeted with a new Trojan worm that can steal their data and use
their device as a spam relay station.
The China-sourced Sexy View malware has been targeting handsets
running the latest Symbian S60 Third Edition software. Earlier
versions of the OS are not believed to be vulnerable.
The malware spreads via a text message with headings like "sexy
view" or "play boy", says an
advisory
from security firm F-Secure.
The attacks target both English and Chinese language
smartphones.
Once installed, the malware attempts to turn off several
application management utilities, before trying to open a
connection to a remote server.
Once connected, user details are collected and text messages are
sent to everyone in the victim's contact list.
