Women in Computing through the years: Computer Weekly’s Archive

People on the move: Computer Weekly 1968

In 1968 Computer Weekly featured a ‘People’ section which included details of industry experts and their next steps.

Women were equally represented in 1968, with the section showing three females and three males. Before the stereotype of the nerdy male ‘brogrammer’ was created women were joining the IT industry as a career in technology was viewed as genderless (as it should be viewed!)

Google are sponsoring a Women in Computing Gallery at TNMOC unveiled at Bletchley Park this month. Dame Steve Shirley was in attendance for the launch.

Two Google interns have been researching women in computing in the Computer Weekly archive and shared their findings with us.
