The year 2013 will experience multiple factors at play. Vendors like Microsoft and Apple are seen integrating social into their desktop and mobile operating systems; this will help users get a seamless social media experience across devices next year.

The CIOs will attempt to harness social and BYOD by choosing Windows 8 platform for company-issued tablet computers. However, the success of such corporatization attempt will be subject to consumer-adoption of Windows 8. If the new OS fails to excite consumers, IDC says, the employees will ditch their company-issued devices in favor of their own. These changes will be seen through 2014 and beyond.
