Blackberry: A 5G device may be on its way

While Blackberry is no longer supporting the operating systems for its devices, all is not lost. In 2020 OnwardMobility announced agreements with BlackBerry and FIH Mobile Limited, a subsidiary of Foxconn Technology Group, to deliver a new 5G BlackBerry Android smartphone with physical keyboard. Under the terms of the agreement, BlackBerry grants OnwardMobility the right to develop, engineer, and bring to market a BlackBerry 5G mobile device. While the device was slated for release in 2021, teh pandemic meant its release was pushed back. In a blog posted on January 6, the company wrote: “While we encountered various delays that prevented us from shipping in 2021, we will be providing more regular updates starting this month that will clarify and answer many of your questions about the ultra-secure 5G enterprise smartphone (still with a keyboard!) we’re bringing to market.”
