Shell builds outsourcing IT architect team

Cliff Saran

Shell has assembled a team to define standards for its outsourcing strategy.

Shell's IT strategy team comprises 100 IT architects. The outsourcing strategy, called One IT, started in July.

Six months ago the oil company signed outsourcing deals with EDS, AT&T and T-Systems. Total expenditure came to £2 billion.

EDS will take over day-to-day management of the oil company's contracts with AT&T and T-Systems. It will take responsibility for those projects as well as its own.

The team of enterprise architects will work with these suppliers and with application services outsourcers IBM, Accenture, Logica and Wipro.

Shell group IT architect Johan Krebbers said the internal team will allow the company to work with its outsourcers to roll out IT standards across the company.
